A halberd is a versatile thirteenth- to sixteenth-century, two-handed polearm, typically 1.5 to 1.8 metres (5–6 ft) long. The head is a combined axe blade, spear-like spike projecting from the front and a hook, all mounted on a shaft. It was designed for infantry use to combat armoured knights with a choice to hook, stab, chop or hack.
