The royal court at Westminster which punished riots, frauds, perjury and public disorder. It could not decide who owned land, so litigants regularly dressed property disputes up as riots to get them heard there. Its pleadings and depositions survive at The National Archives in series STAC; its decree and order books, and with them most of its verdicts, were lost in the seventeenth century. Named after the starred ceiling of the chamber where it sat. Abolished in 1641.
