The rather short inventory below is of all the goods credits and chattels of Thomas Cook, yeomanA freeholder or substantial tenant farmer, ranking above a husbandman but below the gentry. Yeomen held enough land to live... In full. and Bachelor late of Stalbridge Weston. It was taken on 20^th August 1691 by John Cook and William Oliver as appraisers, but not exhibited as part of the administration until 18th August 1692 (almost a year later) by Thomas Cook the father. The omissions of stored food, crops and land create an impression of Thomas being a bachelor ‘living at home’ – but confirmation would need further research.
